Thermodecking production
Decking is crafted from regular wood, subject to a unique high-temperature treatment. As a result the polysaccharides in the wood decompose, thereby removing breeding grounds for bugs and other insects.
After exposure to high temperature, up to 95% of resins and acids get released from the wood, and the moisture content of the wood drops to 2-3% compared to 15% in a conventional board.
Indeed, heat-treated wood stands out as an exceptional choice for both construction and finishing purposes. Its longevity surpasses that of untreated wood, boasting a remarkable service life that spans ten times longer and ensures a trouble-free experience throughout its entire life cycle.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES
OF THERMODECKING
Thermo-modification improves the properties of ordinary wood, which gives the thermowood board serious advantages over decking made of larch and WPC. Thermowood is as resistant to the environment as possible, it is not afraid of rain, snow, fog and other vagaries of nature.
THERMOWOOD COMPARISON
WITH OTHER MATERIALS
When comparing different decking board types in terms of price per m2, thermowood decking may have a higher cost compared to larch and WPC. However, the material’s service life significantly increases to up to 25 years after heat treatment. Considering the enhanced durability and other listed properties, the higher cost of thermowood is fully justified.
Larch deck boards, with a natural humidity level of 11-16%, experience constant changes in moisture characteristics, leading to variations in geometric dimensions. This results in technological gaps between the laid boards that continuously fluctuate based on ambient air temperature.
These transverse and longitudinal deformations complicate installation and cause discomfort during the flooring’s operation.

Натуральный массив |
WPC is a wood-composite deck board for porches and patios, which combines the properties of wood and polymers. Plastic is present in the composition of such material: PVC, polyethylene or polypropylene.
Despite the fact that polymers are considered safe (when added in an amount of no more than 40-45%), they make decking WPC artificial. In contrast, thermowood is 100% natural, as it is produced without any additives. WPC may additionally contain dyes to give colour to the material and modifiers to improve its operational properties.
WPC also contains wood, but it is added after milling in the form of wood flour. This is why the finished board has a dull striped surface rather than the natural texture of a living tree as in thermowood decking.
Some additional key differences:
- The strength of thermowood is higher than WPC, so it is better able to withstand mechanical impact.
- Thermowood decking is geometrically stable, whereas WPC can deform over time.
- Compared to thermowood, WPC has a higher abrasion resistance, which results in a shorter service life.
- WPC cannot be sanded as this will remove the protective polymer layer, whereas sanding is often necessary in case something has been spilled on the composite board.
- Thermowood heats up 25% less than WPC, so it is more pleasant to walk on thermowood flooring than composite boards when heated.
SOME ADDITIONAL KEY DIFFERENCES:
- Thermowood requires no maintenance, while larch flooring needs annual treatment with antiseptic, dye, and varnish.
- Natural wood is vulnerable to insect infestation and rot, while thermowood is resistant to both.
- Untreated larch may develop cracks and jagged edges due to changes in its geometry, resulting in splinters when walked on barefoot.
COMPLETED PROJECTS
THERMOWOOD DECKING
FOR PORCHES AND PATIOS
Our decking is made of thermowood and is therefore simple and easy to maintain. This material does not require any additional treatment.
WHERE THERMODECKING
BOARD IS USED
When wood undergoes specialised heat treatment, it becomes an advanced material. Thermodecking is suitable for use almost anywhere, except for load-bearing structures.
